ABOUT HILLARY (She/Her)
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker with a degree from the University of Michigan School of Social Work. I have been in clinical practice with adults and children since 2012 focusing on anxiety, depression, gender identity, and trauma. In 2017, I opened a private practice to more closely align my therapeutic philosophy with my work. Somatic Experiencing (Peter Levine) and recognizing the connection between your body, mind, and emotions are a significant part of what I do in my downtown office as we walk along your healing journey. Hillary completed her Somatic Experiencing Practitioner's certificate in August of 2022.
Traumatic memory is often felt through our five senses. As a result it is important to slow down the process and create a safe and caring environment to work through your experiences. I will help to slow you down by using breath, movement, observations, touch work, and minimal talk therapy. By slowing down your experience and creating a safe place your body can repair itself as you gradually heal from the hurt you've experienced. From 2015-2020 I taught masters-level courses at the University of Michigan School of Social Work on topic such as Interpersonal Practice for Children and Youth, Groups, and Families, Introduction to Social Work Practices, and Social Work Practical Laboratory. In addition, I have facilitated CEU workshops on Trauma or ADHD: Trauma-Informed Tools for Working with ADHD, Bibliotherapy—A Tool for Helping Children Talk about Feelings, and Trauma Informed Systems of Care, presented on trauma-informed treatment at the Michigan Meeting: Preventing Gender Violence Conference. I have assisted SE trainings at Beginning and Intermediate levels and am currently waiting for my Beginning Level Provider's certificate. I am also available for consultation and supervision sessions with both LMSWs and LLMSWs who are working toward full licensure. No one can learn how to heal if they do not feel safe. As a trauma practitioner I am committed to providing a trauma informed environment for all of my students and clients. My approach has been described as empathetic, direct, generous, and kind. |
